The Masters is a golf tournament that has been played at one of the most exclusive clubs in the world—Augusta National—since 1934. It was officially known as the “Augusta National Invitation Tournament” for its first five editions, but informally as the Masters from the start.
As one of the world’s most elite clubs, Augusta National operates under the principle that if you are obscenely wealthy there is no reason to advertise it, the only label here is the ever-present Masters logo. No other club or municipality can match the resources of Augusta, which is said to take in $115 million from the tournament. The underground irrigation and ventilation system is so advanced that the club can dry the greens if the course is too wet.

Nicklaus is also the oldest winner of the Masters: he was 46 years 82 days old when he won in 1986. Nicklaus, Nick Faldo, and Tiger Woods co-hold the record for most consecutive victories with two. Woods was the youngest winner of the Masters, 21 years 104 days old when he won in 1997. He also set the record for the widest winning margin (12 strokes). He and Jordan Spieth were equalled in 2015.
