What's the catch to Ibotta? ›

You need to add offers before shopping

When you use Ibotta for in-store purchases, you must first add offers to your saved offer list. This can take some time to do as you plan for your shopping trip and figure out what stores you want to shop at and what items you want to buy.

You can't cash out until you've reached $20 in your account. Sometimes it denies a rebate and I have to debate it, when I know it's correct. I sometimes with they would just leave things the way they are instead of changing things.

One of the fastest ways to earn cash is to invite others to join Ibotta. By having them sign up with your personal referral code, you'll receive extra cash in your account!

Ibotta will automatically deactivate an account for a counterfeit receipt or more than two accounts on a single device. All other concerns regarding an account will lock the Saver from withdrawing earnings while our Care Team completes a review.

The fact is that Ibotta does not offer $20 sign up bonuses for new users. But you can easily get to $20 by redeeming only a few offers. Ibotta offers a $5 to $10 bonus for new users who sign up using a referral code and redeem a qualifying offer within a week, not a bonus.

If Ibotta finds you defaming other users for personal gain and rifts, your account may face suspension or banning.

We cannot guarantee that specific offers and bonuses will be available to every Saver. You might notice that your friend has a retailer or offer that you don't have, and vice versa. This is Ibotta doing its best to bring you offers that are relevant to you!

Although both companies work with a variety of retailers, Ibotta generally has more offers at grocery and convenience stores, while Rakuten has a larger selection of department stores and popular brand names.

How can I avoid account maintenance fees? To avoid account maintenance fee deductions, complete a redemption for any offer, or receive credit for a Referral Bonus at least once every 180 days. Account maintenance fees are only deducted from an inactive Ibotta account balance.

Rakuten is best for overall shopping. Ibotta is best for groceries (though make sure your store participates). Dosh is best for travel.

Is Ibotta taxable income? ›

If you purchase a product and then submit the manufacturer's rebate form to receive a check, that money is also not taxable. Similarly, if you use an app such as Ibotta to earn cash rebates on your purchases, this is also not taxable income.
