Donald's "companion," V. Stiviano, "made a recording of himranting about her showing up at Clippers games with African-American men," the outlet states.

Per the publication, Donald "admonished her not to bring her black friends to any more games — a broadside that Sterling later tried to explain away by saying he was jealous seeing younger men with his paramour."

The racist recording led to the sale of the Clippers, a $2.5 million fine, and Donald's lifetime ban from the NBA.

While he could no longer attend NBA games, Rochelle acquired two courtside Staples Center (now called Crypto.com Arena) seats and another 10 seats "elsewhere" in the arena.

"She is a fixture at games, intensely knowledgeable about the Clippers and the rest of the league, according to those who have attended with her," NBC News reported in May 2017.

At the time, Rochelle and her lawyer fought to have Donald's lifetime ban lifted. However, it seems the ban is still in place as of June 2024.

Sailing Ahead: The LA Clippers' Bold Rebrand Journey

"I couldn't understand the severity of the ban. It just seemed a little bit out of line. I have talked to [the NBA] several times and I don’t know what they will do. Maybe they will and maybe they won’t [lift the ban]. Maybe it takes a little bit more time," Rochelle said, per the outlet.

While Donald had previously referred to the NBA as "a band of hypocrites and bullies" after he had to sell the Clippers, he seemed to have moved on when speaking with NBC News in May 2017.

"I am as happy as I have ever been. I am as comfortable as I have ever been. And I don't want to do anything to disturb that," he said.

As ABC News reported, Donald filed for divorce from Rochelle in 2015, citing irreconcilable differences in paperwork submitted to theLos Angeles Superior Court. He also said they had been separated since 2012.

However, in March 2016, the Los Angeles Times reported that the couple chose to call off the divorce.

"Notwithstanding all the difficult events of the last two years, the Sterlings have resolved their differences," Donald Sterling's attorney, Bobby Samini, wrote in an email to the publication.
