How much should ties be? ›

The general rule regarding proper tie length applies regardless of what you're wearing: the tip should sit at your belt buckle. That said, it may depend on your suit jacket.

I'd say about 6–8 that way you have some variety and you can always keep the same shirt underneath but changing your tie makes your suit look completely different. Probably at least one for each day plus's an extra to put in the rotation so you are not wearing the same tie every Monday.

For the working professional, we recommend starting with a minimum of 10 to 12 ties. This range allows for rotation, matching with various suits and shirts, and expressing personal style without repetition.

The simple rule is that you need 3 ties per suit. Even if you don't wear suits you still need enough ties to match all your shirts. And don't forget a bow tie for those occasional formal functions.

In a cheap tie, this silk is of poor quality – less attractive, prone to damage, lightweight, poorly printed.

Men with warm skin tones (ivory, peach, caramel, copper or golden undertones) look great in warm or yellow-based colors. The quickest answer to how to figure out the proper length of your tie is this: the tip of the tie (regardless of the shape) should hit right on top of your belt buckle or waist belt when standing up straight. Never above or below.

When assessing a tie's quality, pay attention to its interlining. Wool and cotton are the best materials to use for interlinings. Another giveaway of a quality tie is the material the tipping (the underside) is made from. Look out for silk or other high-end materials.

The biggest difference is the quality of the fabric from which the ties are woven. With cheap ties, cheaper materials such as polyester or cotton will be chosen, while more luxurious ties are woven from silk, wool, or linen.
