A mile-long pedestrian-friendly mall packed with shopping, restaurants and attractions in downtown Denver.

Designed by famed architect I.M. Pei, the pedestrian promenade is made of red, white and gray granite in a repeating pattern that, seen from above, resembles the skin of a diamondback rattlesnake. Free shuttle buses, dubbed the MallRide, travel up and down the16th Street Mall, stopping on every corner. Hop on and hop off as the shuttles come and go every few minutes and make everything downtown easy to reach.

The Mall is the spine that connects all of downtown, from the city's transportation hub and a locals' favorite hangout,Denver Union Station,at one end to Civic Center Park and the Colorado State Capitol at the other. And just off the Mall, you'll find major attractions like the DenverPerformingArtsComplexwithin the Denver Theatre District and the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver (MCA Denver).

It's also easy to get toLarimer Square, Denver’s urban shopping district where Victorian buildings house specialty boutiques and unique chef-driven restaurants. And only three blocks from the Mall is McGregor Square,which boasts a baseball-themed hotel, chef-driven food hall, shops, restaurants, bars and a large outdoor plaza.

Construction Update

The Mall is currently being revitalizedbutstaying open for business! The RTD’s Free MallRide bus will continue running, so make sure to check upcoming detours onto 15th and 17th Streets.

Things to See and Do

The mall offers Denver's best people-watching. There are 42 outdoor cafés along the mall, making it the perfect place to grab a bite to eat or have a drink.Denver Pavilions, near the south end of the mall, is a shopping and dining complex with 12 movie theaters and more than two dozen shops and restaurants. At the north end of the mall, 16th Street continues as a pedestrian path over three bridges connecting downtown toCommons ParkandLoHi, a hip neighborhood filled with restaurants and brewpubs.

Denver Pavilions is a shopping and dining complex with 12 movie theaters and more than two dozen shops and restaurants.

While you’re here, take a look at the striking Daniels & Fisher Tower, a two-thirds replica of the Campanile of St. Mark's in Venice that was the highest building west of the Mississippi when it was built in 1909. Inside this historic landmark is the Clocktower Cabaret, a nightclub offering comedy, musical acts and more.

After dark, horse-drawn carriages and pedi-cabs carry people up and down the mall, while nearly a million lights twinkle above in the more than 200 trees that line the promenade.

The Kitchen– Created in Colorado and now with several locations, The Kitchen is a farm-to-table bistro with food and drink that ebb and flow with the season and features goods from local farmers and purveyors. A raw bar, meat, fish and vegetarian dishes are on the menu.

Sam's No. 3 Diner and Bar – Featured on the Food Network's Diner's, Drive-Insand Dives, Sam's No. 3 has been serving up Denver's favorite comfort food since 1927.
